The Gower Peninsula ,the first
designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, remains stunningly
beautiful and uncrowded, an excellent holiday destination for all
seasons, particularly for those who enjoy outdoor activities.
Southgate/Pennard is a 20 minute drive from Swansea (about 8 miles)
and average 90 minutes from the Severn Bridge. Once there you can
forget your car as just about everything you came for is on your
doorstep! Southgate has shops, PO, café, pub, library and
Medical Centre. Swansea has cinemas, theatre (concerts, plays, ballet
& opera), interesting museums, covered market with local produce,
Marina and Leisure Centre. The Brecon Beacons and Black Mountains,
with their caves, rivers, waterfalls, marvellous walks and views
are about 45 minutes- 1 hour drive inland. |
 |
Myrtle Cottage is on a private
‘no through road’ adjacent to PENNARD GOLF LINKS (visitors
welcome), and the footpath to POBBLES & THREE CLIFFS BAY - (recent
Finalist in a Competition for Britain’s greatest view!)
THE BEACHES (10 mins walk down, 20 up) have safe swimming, frequently
surfing, prawning, fishing, acres of sand at low tide; rock pools,
caves, dunes and spectacular cliffs, extremely popular with walkers
and rock climbers (both amateur and experienced).
|
A variety of walks can start from
the front gate, for example, around the cliffs eastwards to Hunt’s
Bay ( Cornish choughs breeding here), Pwll Du and Brandy Cove; westerly
across the golf course to the ruins of Pennard Castle, or along
the river valley towards Three Cliffs Bay and across stepping stones
to Oxwich Bay (variety of water sports here) or up to Cefn Bryn,
the ‘spine ‘of Gower.
